The Red Sea Souk, a key platform designed to discover and connect Arab and African filmmakers to the international film community, has opened its call for “Project Market” and “WIP Showcase” for its 2023 edition
As part of the Red Sea International Film Festival, the Project Market and the Work-In-Progress Showcase are hosted within the Red Sea Souk, which is now in its third edition.
The Project Market will showcase a selection of ten to twelve projects in development or in production, while the WIP Showcase will present a selection of five to six films in post-production. The Red Sea Souk aims to support the co-production and distribution of films and the discovery of new talents.
All selected film teams (Director and Producer) will benefit from unique opportunities, including an invitation to attend and present their projects/films at the Red Sea Souk, press and social network announcements, specific workshops, projects pitching sessions and film-in-progress screenings to a high-level international industry audience, and one-to-one meeting sessions.
All selected film projects in the Project Market will compete for three jury-granted awards offered by the Red Sea Fund, including the Red Sea Souk Development Award, which comes with a cash prize of 35,000 USD, the Red Sea Souk Special Mention Award, which comes with a cash prize of 25,000 USD, and the Red Sea Souk Production Award, which comes with a cash prize of 100,000 USD.
Meanwhile, all selected films in post-production (WIP) will compete for two jury-granted awards offered by the Red Sea Fund, including the Red Sea Souk Post-Production Award, which comes
with a cash prize of 30,000 USD and the Red Sea Souk Special Mention Award, which comes with a cash prize of 10,000 USD.
This is an incredible opportunity for Directors from Arab or African nationalities/origins to get support on developing their film projects, find or enlarge the coproduction of their films as well as showcase their films in progress (First Cut) to a high-profile international audience of festival programmers, sales agents or distributors.
