The Red Sea Fund and Film AlUla Strengthen Strategic Partnership to Support Film Projects Shooting in AlUla

July 2, 2026

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; 2 July 2026: The Red Sea Fund, a program under the Red Sea Film Foundation, and Film AlUla have strengthened their strategic partnership to support a number of film projects moving into production and filming in AlUla in 2026. The collaboration reflects the depth of cooperation between the two entities in empowering regional and international talent and advancing the Kingdom’s filmmaking ecosystem.

The supported projects include Jo of Montreal, directed by Ameen Nayfeh and produced by Bassam Alasad, a coming-of-age story centered on cultural identity and self-discovery. The slate also includes Madness and Honey Days, directed by Ahmed Yassin Al-Daradji and produced by Maytham Jbara, a dramatic work with human and historical dimensions that explores the relationship between authority and the individual in a turbulent context. Also supported through the partnership is the short narrative film Soura, written and directed by Zahra Mohammed AlDhamin and produced by Bashayer Aqeel, which explores themes of identity and belonging through the personal journey of a young girl at a pivotal stage of her life.

The collaboration reflects a broader scope of production support, extending to the preparation of projects for filming, the engagement of local talent, and the expansion of production opportunities within the Kingdom. Portions of these works are set to be filmed across AlUla’s natural and heritage locations, highlighting the destination’s visual appeal and further reinforcing its position as an inspiring filming hub on both the regional and international stage.

Emad Eskander, Director of the Red Sea Fund, said: “This partnership reflects our commitment to empowering filmmakers and supporting projects with distinctive creative voices as they move into production. We are pleased to see these films attract talent and expertise while drawing on AlUla’s production capabilities and exceptional locations, helping to advance a vibrant and sustainable film industry in Saudi Arabia and across the wider region.”

In turn, Zaid Shaker, Acting Executive Director of Film AlUla, said: “Jo of Montreal, Madness and Honey Days, and Soura each possess a compelling narrative that we’re eager to bring to the screen. Film AlUla is always proud to support authentic filmmakers in bringing their visions to AlUla against our landscape.”

Through this partnership, the Red Sea Fund and Film AlUla continue to support ambitious projects that contribute to talent development and further strengthen the Kingdom’s creative momentum.
