The Red Sea Film Foundation Celebrates Acclaimed Director Spike Lee With A Special Screening Series In Jeddah

As part of its ongoing efforts to enrich the local cinematic landscape and connect local audiences with leading global filmmakers, the Red Sea Film Foundation is presenting a special series of screenings featuring a curated selection of films by the acclaimed director Spike Lee. Taking place at VOX Cinemas, Red Sea Mall in Jeddah, the screenings will run from April 30 to May 3, 2025, and are open to the public. The program includes four of Spike Lee’s most celebrated works: BlacKkKlansman, 25th Hour, Malcolm X, and 4 Little Girls.

This special screening series is part of the “Directors’ Program,” curated by the Red Sea Labs, a program under the Red Sea Film Foundation. Led by the legendary Spike Lee, alongside distinguished local and international filmmakers, the week-long intensive program welcomes emerging directors from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, Asia, and Africa. Participants will engage in workshops, mentorship sessions, and hands-on training designed to support and accelerate their creative journeys.

Cinema lovers in Jeddah will have the rare opportunity to experience Spike Lee’s iconic films on the big screen, including the biographical masterpiece Malcolm X, which earned two Academy Award nominations and stands as a landmark portrayal of activism and civil rights. The screenings also feature BlacKkKlansman, the Oscar-winning film that secured Lee the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019, the acclaimed drama 25th Hour starring Edward Norton, and the deeply moving documentary 4 Little Girls, nominated for an Academy Award and spotlighting a pivotal moment in American civil rights history. 4 Little Girls will be screened as part of the “Doc Days” program at Hayy Cinema, in collaboration with Art Jameel.

Spike Lee also served as President of Jury during the fourth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2024, a milestone that further cemented the Festival’s reputation as a leading global platform for emerging filmmakers.

Over his illustrious career, Lee has earned numerous prestigious awards and remains a revered figure among audiences and critics worldwide.
