How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

ROSE OF NEVADA

Director: Mark Jenkin

Rose Of Nevada is eerie, poignant and the tides are treacherous in this mysterious, daring work. Having brought Enys Men to Red Sea Film Festival in 2022, Mark Jenkin returns with his unique vision in this trenchant time-travelling tale of eternal loss. Two of the UK’s most exciting young actors, George MacKay and Callum Turner, headline this story initially set in a forgotten Cornish fishing village. Nick (MacKay) is trying to fix the roof over his head when he signs up as crew on a mysterious trawler called Rose of Nevada. Liam (Turner) is the stranger who drifts into town and ends up on board. All however, is not as it seems.

THE FURIOUS

Director: Kenji Tanigaki

A martial arts epic from action choreographer-turned-director Tanigaki Kenji, The Furious unites a cast of pan-Asian stars — including Xie Miao (The New Legend Of Shaolin), Joe Taslim (The Raid: Redemption), Jeeja Yanin and Yayan Ruhian — in a brutal yet emotional fight for justice. Set in an unnamed Southeast Asian country, it follows a father and a journalist as they take on a human trafficking syndicate in search of their missing loved ones. Produced by Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), with fight sequences choreographed for raw authenticity, the film pays homage to the golden age of Asian action cinema while pushing the genre forward. Gritty and powerful, The Furious is a masterpiece in its genre and a must-watch for martial arts fans.

GHOST SCHOOL

Director: Seemab Gul

This gentle yet arresting debut feature from Seemab Gul centers around 10-year-old Rabia, a clear-eyed, logical-thinking, courageous child protagonist who wants to understand the real reason for the abrupt closure of her school. Rumours start that the school is haunted and her teacher is possessed by supernatural beings. However, her day-long quest for the truth, fuelled by her simple desire for an education, leads her into an adult world that has been plunged into superstition. What soon becomes clear are the machinations behind a corrupt regime and classist society, giving way to the nature of its real victims. Ghost School is a bittersweet portrayal of injustice for Rabia and the hope of a better future for all younger generations.
