Dana, a desolate yet daring 10-year-old, flees her tumultuous home on the coast of Bnaider in Kuwait to escape her mother’s rage and seek a truer sense of self. She roams down the shore where her path crosses with two teenagers who intrigue her at first, but soon she slowly starts to realize that their path isn't what is right for her, and the search for belonging must continue.

Barni, the debut feature by Mohammed Sheikh, tells the poignant story of a nine-year-old girl who disappears after a wedding celebration in a quaint Somali village. Her 18-year-old sister, Amina, along with friends Hirsi and Geedi, embark on a courageous journey to the city to find her. The film explores the strength of family bonds, solidarity in adversity and the resilience of children in challenging social contexts. Through authentic storytelling, natural performances and a strong visual style, the film aims to immerse audiences in a world not often seen on screen. Barni looks at daily life and the struggles faced by Somali communities. Its power lies in transforming a tragic disappearance into a celebration of courage, loyalty and humanity.

RedSeaIFF Ticket Terms 

• Tickets are non-exchangeable, non-refundable, and cannot be resold.
• Seating is guaranteed up to 15 minutes before the start of the screening and panel.
• Late arrivals are seated at the Theatre Manager’s discretion.
• Programs, schedules, and venues are subject to change.
• Proof of age may be required for age-restricted films.
• Recording devices are strictly prohibited in all screenings and panels • Badge holders may release tickets up to 60 minutes before the screening via the app, website, or Box Office. Unreleased and unused tickets will count toward the No Show Policy.
