The film follows two women, brilliantly portrayed in their subtle journey to delay a forced marriage and gain control of their lives: Rojan is a young girl living in Iraqi Kurdistan and facing high stakes. If she does not pass the exams that open the doors for her to college, she will be forced to get married. The odds aren’t in her favor as she is already regarded as a source of problems, and has a suicide attempt already under her belt. Her sister Shilan is in an unhappy marriage herself, and decides to help Rojan pass her exams, even if it would require cheating. This becomes the most meaningful and formative part of the film, as Rojan turns out to be one of many women who need certificates to prove their qualifications, and are willing to pay to get them.
