Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield bring humour and exceptional personal chemistry to this compelling tale of love, marriage, and heartache. The movie's unique feature is that the narrative skips back and forth in time across a decade so that we absorb all of their lives – highs, lows, romance and parenthood – as a jigsaw puzzle that helps us understand their decisions in the different phases of their relationship. It's a real tearjerker that shows how ambitious chef Almut meets Tobias, a data cruncher whose marriage has just ended, and then they fall in love and have to cope with all the hurdles put in front of them. When Almut decides to enter a high-stakes cooking championship the tension between them boils over.

SANTOSH

Director: Sandhya Suri

When Santosh’s husband, a policeman in a rural district in North India, is killed in a riot, the widow can only keep their home if she takes his job. Eager to succeed, she shows more determination than is usual among the misogynist male police when a low-caste girl is reported missing and then turns up dead. A charismatic senior woman officer, Inspector Sharma, is duly drafted in to head the murder investigation, becoming Santosh’s mentor. Success for women, however, generally means showing they can bend the rules as flagrantly as the men, where survival always comes at huge personal cost. A fascinating police procedural, focusing on the relationships within the force rather than crimes or culprits, the film is an investigation into deep-rooted systemic corruption.

HEAT

Director: Michael Mann

Michael Mann directs one of the greatest police thrillers in movie history. A slow-burn cat and mouse criminal chase masterpiece featuring memorable turns from movie legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Taking place in the aftermath of a truck robbery, an obsessive detective (Pacino) hunts down the crew of Neil McCauley (De Niro), a ruthless professional thief, through the Los Angeles labyrinth. Both men are battling their own domestic demons forcing them to take stock of their lives and despite being on opposite sides of the law, their lives have uncanny parallels. The battle between the men ramps up as McCauley’s crew embarks on a new heist. Mann’s tension-inducing reserved approach, the spectacular cinematography and incredible action scenes keeps the suspense levels high throughout.
