Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, September 17, 2019<\/span><\/b>: Submissions are open for the inaugural edition of the\u202f<\/span>Red Sea International Film Festival<\/span><\/b>. Entries are invited from September 17, 2019, until November 15, 2019, for a program presenting a distinctive selection of international, Arab, and Saudi feature-length, short and immersive works. The Festival will take place in the ancient Jeddah Old Town in March 2020.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In Competition<\/span><\/b>\u202fis an international program, celebrating innovative approaches to storytelling, judged for cash prizes in the\u202f<\/span>Yusr Awards<\/span><\/b>\u202fby a jury of global cinema leaders. International films must have Middle East premiere status, and Arab films are required to be original works by emerging and established filmmakers, with special attention given to promoting films from the Global South.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The\u202f<\/span>Yusr Awards<\/span><\/b>\u202foffer cash prizes totaling $250,000 in diverse fields, including directing, screenwriting, and acting. The awards are designed to recognize daring, elevate new voices, and encourage film culture in Saudi and the region.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For short filmmakers from the Arab World, there\u2019s also a\u202f<\/span>Golden Yusr<\/span><\/b>\u202fand a cash prize for the Best Short Film. The\u202f<\/span>Red Sea Shorts Competition\u202fis<\/span><\/b>\u202ffor filmmakers from the Arab World, a section where audiences can encounter contemporary creativity from the region\u2019s filmmakers and artists of any discipline.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A pioneering program exploring Saudi cinema called:\u202f<\/span>New Cinema\/New Saudi<\/span><\/b>\u202fwill make an introduction to vital filmmakers and artists from the Kingdom\u2019s energetic new cinema wave.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Tajreeb<\/span><\/b>\u202fis the home\u00a0for\u00a0Saudi-made, extroverted, impressionistic narrative, documentary or animated films that capture the zeitgeist.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The Festival\u2019s setting in the UNESCO-listed, ancient coral labyrinth of Jeddah Old Town will be transformed through\u202f<\/span>Immersive Cinema<\/span><\/b>\u202fexperiences, including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
