Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 28 August 2019:<\/span><\/b>\u202fThe<\/span>\u202fRed Sea International Film Festival<\/span><\/b>\u202fhas announced cash prizes totaling $350,000 to be awarded at the inaugural Festival taking place in Jeddah from March 12\u201321, 2020. There will be $250,000 in cash prizes for films\u202f<\/span>In Competition\u202f<\/span><\/b>and $100,000 as part of the\u202f<\/span>Bait Al Montage\u202f<\/span><\/b>post-production fund.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The competition cash prizes reward cinematic excellence from around the world, emphasizing innovation and daring expression. The\u202f<\/span>International Competition<\/span><\/b>\u202fruns across six categories with winners chosen by a jury comprising eminent international film figures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The\u202f<\/span>Golden Yusr Trophy<\/span><\/b>\u202ffor\u202f<\/span>Best Feature<\/span><\/b>\u202fcarries a $100,000 cash prize and the\u202f<\/span>Silver Yusr Trophy<\/span><\/b>\u202ffor\u202f<\/span>Best Director<\/span><\/b>\u202fis presented with $50,000 in the\u202f<\/span>International Competition.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A\u202f<\/span>Silver Yusr Trophy\u202f<\/span><\/b>will also be awarded for\u202f<\/span>Best Screenplay<\/span><\/b>,\u202f<\/span>Best Actor<\/span><\/b>,\u202f<\/span>Best Actress,\u202f<\/span><\/b>and\u202f<\/span>Best Cinematic Contribution.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

An additional\u202f<\/span>Golden Yusr Trophy<\/span><\/b>\u202fawarded for\u202f<\/span>Best Short Film<\/span><\/b>\u202fattracts a $50,000 finance award for a future project plus a 3-month creative residency in Old Town, Jeddah.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The\u202f<\/span>Best Short Film\u202f<\/span><\/b>prize is part of the\u202f<\/span>Red Sea Shorts Competition<\/span><\/b>, featuring the most exciting contemporary voices from the Arab world, including student directors, first-time filmmakers, and contemporary Arab artists from diverse disciplines.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

There will be an\u202f<\/span>Audience Award<\/span><\/b>\u202fcarrying a cash prize of $50,000.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The Golden Yusr Trophy<\/span><\/b>\u202ftakes its name from the black coral formations found off the Red Sea Coast. An international competition to design the award, open to artists, will be announced shortly.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The details of mentoring and production funds were also revealed, showcasing the Festival\u2019s commitment to extolling talents with daring storytelling approaches from the Arab world.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A new post-production fund,\u202f<\/span>The Bait Al Montage Fund<\/span><\/b>, supports up to six Arab films with grants totaling US$100,000. The grantees will be revealed during\u202f<\/span>the Red Sea Souk<\/span><\/b>, the Festival\u2019s Industry Days, taking place March 13-17, 2020.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The announcement demonstrates the Festival\u2019s support for a sustainable regional film industry, adding to the existing\u202f<\/span>Red Sea Lodge<\/span><\/b>\u202f\u2013 an intensive five-month mentoring and training program for twelve teams of Arab filmmakers.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Delivered in collaboration with\u00a0TorinoFilmLab\u00a0in the lead up to the 2020 Festival, two participants will be awarded grants of US$500,000 each following an \u2018in Festival\u2019 pitch to a jury of industry leaders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Also supporting production, the one time\u202f<\/span>Tamheed<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>Fund\u202f<\/span><\/b>will\u00a0realize\u00a0two new Saudi feature films bestowing grants of $500,000 each.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The enthusiasm of the local film scene was demonstrated in an overwhelming number of submissions, with\u202f<\/span>The Book of Sun\u202f<\/span><\/i>by Faris\u00a0Godus\u00a0and\u202f<\/span>Forty\u202fYears and a Night<\/span><\/i>\u202fby Mohammed\u00a0Alholayyil\u00a0selected. The films will be premiered at the inaugural Festival in March 2020.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Another production initiative is the $400,000 funding of a special\u202f<\/span>Omnibus<\/span><\/b>\u202fpresenting up to 6 short films made\u202f<\/span>by\u202fSaudi women filmmakers<\/span><\/b>. <\/span><\/p>

This articulates a commitment to new voices in Saudi filmmaking, encouraging stories from and by the Kingdom\u2019s women. <\/span><\/p>
