A collaboration between the Red Sea International Film Festival, the Alliance Fran\u00e7aise, and the French Consulate in Jeddah, the challenge is designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and innovation while supporting the development of emerging film talent through a fast-paced, immersive filmmaking experience.<\/p><p>The organizers invite applications from teams of creatives aged 18\u201325, comprising up to five participants and led by a Saudi director.<\/p><p>Selected teams will take part in an intensive mentorship workshop focused on short film production before embarking on the 48-hour challenge. Working around set themes\u2014including a surprise scenic or prop element revealed shortly before filming begins\u2014each team will write, shoot, and edit a short film ranging from three to six minutes in duration.<\/p><p>The challenge will culminate in a series of Professional Days and screenings, bringing together participants and industry professionals through talks, workshops, networking opportunities, and film screenings.<\/p><p>Two winning teams will be awarded Red Sea 48HR Film Challenge trophies, with the winning team leaders receiving an international residency opportunity in France in 2027. What are the next steps?<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2653\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2653\"><ul><li>Teams will have to shoot a short film, 3\u20137 minutes long, which can be fiction or nonfiction, narrative or documentary.<\/li><li>It will explore at least one of the following themes: de-coding, playing, creating, or thinking.<\/li><li>There will also be a sub-theme to include \u2013 from memory, time, technology, or breath.<\/li><li>Teams will enjoy a two-day online briefing, mentoring, and workshops program. This will be an invaluable learning experience where they will learn about everything that goes into writing, producing, and filming a short. It will equip them with the knowledge and technical guidelines to complete the challenge. It will take place on <strong>July 11-12<\/strong>, and all participants will be required to attend (except for the writing workshop, which will be specifically for the writer and director) \u2013 entry will not be allowed otherwise.<\/li><li>Participants will be required to have their own financial resources to produce the film, including all necessary funding and equipment. They will be able to use any camera for filming, including their smartphone cameras.<\/li><li>Shooting will take place on <strong>July 18-19<\/strong>. But there will be a twist! All shortlisted teams will face an imaginative challenge \u2013 24 hours before the shoot, we will introduce a new element, and they will be required to include it in their films. It could be anything \u2013 from a small object or artifact to a more significant scenic element like a tree.<\/li><li>This will be a creative challenge, and will demand new work! That means the teams will not be able to reuse a film, script (or any footage) previously developed.<\/li><li>The film audio will have to be in English. For reasons of organization and consistency, these regulations could be amended. In the event of any substantial changes, the organizers were to notify the candidates as soon as possible.<\/li><li>The winners consent to transfer, without reservation, the copyright they held in the works produced for the competition to the organizers. They consent to accept \u2013 for the purposes of the competition \u2013 the reproduction of their work, by any digital, sound, audiovisual, or multimedia means. This copyright cession was granted and maintained even in the event of a change in the winners\u2019 professional or personal situations.<\/li><li>Any content considered inappropriate or plagiarized could lead to disqualification from the 48Hr Film Challenge.<\/li><li>Filmmakers agree to all interviews, photography, and video promotional material required by the Red Sea International Film Festival.
