New mother Reem goes to Huda’s salon in Bethlehem for a haircut and some bonding female companionship. Then the unthinkable happens; she wakes up from a drugged sleep to learn that traitorous Huda has taken obscene photographs of her that she will distribute unless Reem agrees to spy for the occupation. Meanwhile, the resistance pursues Huda; the film’s centrepiece is her interrogation, a tense battle of wills that includes a bitter exchange about women’s position in Palestine. Hany Abu-Assad’s film is a spy thriller, full of suspense, but it is also the story of two women fighting for freedom.
