The central figure in Harawe's haunting short film is just a boy, but he is one of many boys in the same prison cell, all condemned to death. In inky dark interiors, seen largely in profile, he stays calm as an expressionless court official tells him the procedure for his execution; routine protects these officials from feeling empathy. It's unclear whether he knows what crime he has committed. Will my parents come to see me? he asks.
