One of the greatest directors in cinema's history, Spike Lee, has been wowing audiences ever since his debut film, She's Gotta Have It, landed at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986. His early movies, such as Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever and Malcolm X, transformed the representation of African Americans on screen. His mid-career masterpiece Bamboozled demonstrated the awful cultural depictions African-Americans had suffered during the first decades of cinema. Lee changed the face of cinema, and countless directors of all races and creeds have benefitted. Lee's impressive body of work has seen him traverse many genres, making films about a notorious serial killer (Summer of Sam), college basketball (He Got Game), a bank heist (Inside Man) and post 9/11 New York (25th Hour). He won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his transfer of BlacKkKlansman from page to screen. In addition to his feature film work, Lee is a master documentarian - 4 Little Girls and When the Levees Broke were hailed as masterpieces by many. He's also a great music director and has helmed many of the world's most famous advertisements. Lee is in Jeddah to present Malcolm X, a Hollywood movie with pivotal scenes in Mecca, and for this in-conversation about his game-changing career. Not to be missed.
